Through the Merchant Quarters

An excursion through the historical quarters of Novosibirsk, where the houses and atmosphere of a century ago are preserved. You will get to know this small corner of a pre-revolutionary urban area of the early 20th century: wonderful wooden architecture, stone mansions, merchant stories, and peaceful courtyards. Just like today, a century ago these were prestigious neighborhoods where merchants and rich citizens lived.

Vladimir Mayakovsky Concert Hall

One of the largest concert halls in the city center. A meeting place for young rebels in the 1950s–1960s.

House of Merchant Grigory Beylin

A monument of wooden architecture. An example of a town house of the early 20th century.

House of Merchant Aron Kagan

One of the largest mansions of the grain merchant Kagan with its own winter garden. It later became a maternity hospital, where it seems that half of Novosibirsk’s children were born.

Church of the Intercession of the Virgin Mary

An ancient surviving wooden church in Novosibirsk.

It used to be the most expensive and prestigious city hotel.
