The Music Theater is another venue well-loved by both locals and guests of Novosibirsk. Started as a branch of the Opera and Ballet Theater, it was opened on February 2, 1959. The repertoire offered operettas and musical comedies.
The building was inspired by the neoclassical style and has the capacity of 600 seats. The foyer walls are covered with photographs of the actors and productions.
Originally intended for operettas and comedies, the musical theater has changed its concept. The goal now is to offer the largest possible selection of performances for all kinds of audiences. Today’s repertoire includes the famous comedy Love and Doves, a modern interpretation of the famous classic in the musical Dubroffsky, the operetta about love Maritza, the breath-taking cabaret show Big City Lights, and so much more.
The Music Theater is the coordinator of Other Shores, the festival celebrating the best musical projects in Russia. The theater company is a regular guest of various world-class theatrical events. For example, the theater is a long-time participant of the Golden Mask Festival and has 15 awards.
