Art Museum

The museum opened its doors to visitors on December 27, 1958. Since 1982 it has been located in the building of the former Sibrevkom, an architectural monument of federal importance, built in 1926 by Andrey Kryachkov, an outstanding Siberian architect. Now the museum’s collection houses over 12 thousand paintings, graphics, sculptures, decorative and applied art pieces of Russian and West European artists of the 16th–21st centuries. Every year the museum hosts about 80 exhibitions of classical and contemporary art. International Triennale of Contemporary Graphics, Art Novosibirsk, Krasny Prospect — these and other major exhibition projects of the last decades have earned the museum a well-deserved reputation as one of the most appealing centers of artistic life in Siberia.

Opening hours: Tuesday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., closed on Monday

Besides tours, the Novosibirsk Art Museum houses two art studios. Through the Looking Glass was opened in 1988. It was a remarkable achievement for that time, because only Moscow and St. Petersburg had such studios.
The key benefit of this place is the broadening of children’s horizons. Drawing classes introduce them to different works of art, and every new exhibition opens their mind.
The success of Through the Looking Glass gave momentum to Palettes, the second art studio. However, it was founded not for children, but for adults. You don’t need to know the basics of classical drawing or have an extensive experience, just the desire to be creative. The museum provides all materials. Seize the moment and throw yourself into the world of art and create your own painting.
You can also try your luck at the museum art quiz. After seeing the museum and its permanent exhibition, take a fascinating 20-question art quiz.
4–5 year old kids won’t be bored either. In 2017 the museum started to offer Big Museum for Little Ones Pass, which includes games and master classes.
