Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension of Christ

His Eminence Tikhon, Diocesan Bishop, Metropolitan of Novosibirsk and Berdsk, is the abbot of the Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension of Christ. The first wooden church of the Ascension was built in Novonikolayevsk in 1913. In 1937 the church was closed to be repurposed into a grain store. The cathedral was returned to the church in 1944. In 1974, Bishop Gedeon began the reconstruction of the cathedral. It was completed in 1988 to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the Christianization of Rus. The cathedral houses many sacred objects that attract pilgrims: shrine with the relics in the cathedral’s altar, shrine with the relics from the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Laura, and especially revered icons: the one of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker with a piece of relics, the Reverend Seraphim of Sarov, a miracle worker, with a piece of relics and others.

Opening hours: Monday through Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
