We will start our journey to the south to the Chuya Highway with a trestle motor bridge over the Kamenka River.
A haunted health resort is located on the left side of the road in a large pine forest.
We crossed the bridge over the Berd River, the beginning of the Chuya Highway in Novosibirsk Region. In 1716, on the south bank of the Berd River, a new ostrog was founded which became the first surviving Russian fortress beyond the Teleut boundary on the frontier.
The next stop on our journey along the Chuya Highway is Iskitim. It was founded on the site of several old Russian villages: Koynovo, Chernodyrovo or Chernorechka, Shipunovo, and Vylkovo.
The small settlement of Lozhok in Iskitimsky District has gone down in the history of the Soviet Union as prison camp No. 4, a harsh industrial prison, which was also renowned as a place of execution.
Construction of the Novosibirsk electrode plant started in August 1965 on Koynikha River, and the village of Linyovo was established specially for the workers. The plant was built as part of the Russian Komsomol construction project, which attracted young construction workers from the whole country.
If you take a left behind Linyovo village, you can reach the natural landmarks of Novosibirsk Region. These are: Berd Rocks conservation area, Belovo Waterfall, and Buchilo Waterfall.
You’ll come across a junction after 8 kilometers. If you continue straight on, you’ll find a cafe in Talmenka and a road leading to Altai; turn left to go toward Cherepanovo and the road to the Golden Suenga, or turn right to get to Suzun, the capital of the Siberian Coin.
Suenga River, a beautiful place for gold miners, is 100 kilometers further along the highway.
On the left, you can see the city of Cherepanovo. It was founded because of the construction of the Altai Railway. In 1912, Svobodny settlement was built next to it, and construction began of the Cherepanovo railway station, which was named after the neighboring old village.
